All the problema was created when the plugins tried to reach a site in order to get the country of origin of each hit. I commented line 99 where the function is called on wp-shortstat.php (v.1.3) and now it works, altough I lost country information but it’s finally working back.
wp-shortstat or Mint October 26, 2005

I was a happy user of wp-shortstat for my WP blogs until this week. I don’t know what happened but suddenly every one of my sites were painfully slow. I tried several things and none of them worked. Today I decided to uncheck all the plugins and voilá, everything was dandy. Turning on each one led me to isolate wp-shortsat as the culprit.
Now, I really love what Mint offers but don’t want to spend a large sum of money for each install of it. My only hope is to find what’s the bug on my wp-shortstat and fix it by myself.
Update: the problem was quickly fixed.

MS thinks licensing is complex October 24, 2005

Source code licensing is an inherently complex topic. There are many possible permutations or interpretations of any given license. It is not our intent to redefine all source code licensing, rather to simplify the approach taken by Microsoft.
At least they are using licenses very similar to those of GPL.

Can Flock tags be used as tags for my blog? Or Flock blogging tool supports categories?
The answer looks like “no”.
Anyway, tags appear as Technorati tags.

All those things that were the headlines of the major blogs some months ago now are real with WordPress.com. The Write Post section has resizeable text-area, AJAX, WYSIWYG, a photo-uploading tool and little small details that really look nice.
There’s also a preview section that actually embeds your site’s stylesheet and shows you the content as any reader would see it.
In the Links section I can see the “disappearing-yellow yellow-fade” technique when a new link is added. Also when deleting a post.
This technique was pioneered by the folks at 37signals — yes, the Basecamp team.
For a more general technique, you could try FAT — Fade Anything Technique.
Good.
