web developer toolbar, been using it for so long, i can't remember. outline current element is the greatest option, without it writing css for cms's output would be so much harder. Haven't tried fb though.

Okay! I"m FIVE ...and don't look a day over three ...pa-dumTUM

seriously, I've used WDT for years. I installed Firebug when it came to the forefront, but soon identified that it was causing Firefox to use an EXTREMELY large amount of memory/processor.

I'd like to hear that the FB folks have corrected their problem.

I, of course, second the request that "someone" conduct an analysis of the two plugins to determine which does what best.

A little later, but I guess I am 4.
I came to this blog looking for a Web Dev Toolbar vs. Firebug answer

I have both installed at the moment (I finally broke down & installed Firebug also)
But my concern is the same as the other person and of people I have read that say firebug slows down your browser.

For me, I have found WDT light and super useful, as well as being easy to hide-away and keep out of my hair when not using it.
In the first 10mins of installing Firebug (albeit with WDT), I have been having some issues.

Maybe I need to configure or work out what needs to be disabled, but I can't find a real comparison anywhere on the web to make the choices without going through trial & error.

Maybe here?

lool .. Make it three :D :D
I'm also came here from google with the keywords "Firebug VS Developer Toolbar" :)

I used Firebug for about month it is awesome tool. But it slows down firefox performance. Also I get a notification from gmail to disable some options in it.
Actually it is a great tool. There is an option not available in WDT is that you can't Click an element in a page to see all it's Codes, Styles, .. etc
Or may it available but I can't found it.
But you can there is alot of tools in WDT not available in Firebug.

Finally I will be very happy if they can be installed in the sametime without any errors or slowing the firefox performance :)

Regards,

Make it two. I've been using Web Developer toolbar forever now and just recently found out about firebug via my boss. Web Developer toolbar does everything I want, but maybe that's only because I haven't tried Firebug, I haven't realized that there are things that I could use that I am, in fact, missing. A follow up article would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thanks.

I would love to write that article but first I have to find the time. At this moment it's taking me ages to write in this blog.

But now that I know that one person is interested I will try to keep it on top of my list.

salam, :)
nice article Felixe, i googled about firebug vs wdt and your article is the only post "discussing" this matter so far, i used to work with "XML Developer Toolbar" before switching to chrispederick's WDT and i use/rely on it since. heard some nice things about firebug too but i'm still hesitating.
Some kind of features review between FB vs WDT 's pros and cons would be much apreciated.

I'm glad you like it! It seems to resonate with a lot of designers who really understand CSS and the whole content-then-design issue.

By the way, great blog! I'm subscribed now. :)
